York City Council and localpad

Property advertising accreditation scheme

The City of York Council launched YorProperty to raise the overall standard of private rented sector accommodation throughout the city. This encompasses student accommodation which accounts for a significant portion of lets in the city – home to University of York, York St. John’s University, York College and Askham Bryan College.

YorProperty aims to support landlords and agents letting property that meets the council’s standards. This in turn gives tenants confidence in the quality of the accommodation they let. By partnering with localpad, YorProperty successfully launched their Landlord Accreditation Scheme, ensuring each landlord and agent that registers commits to:

Making sure their property meets standards of the scheme
Confirming they are a fit and proper person who will treat tenants fairly
Attending training in property management organised by the scheme

The YorProperty branded website offers tenants a powerful tool to search for available accommodation. The prospect of advertising on the site acts as an incentive for landlords and agents to join the scheme, and ensure their property meets the necessary standards.
